STATE BIRD. In 1947, the Western Meadowlark became the state bird of North Dakota. The Western Meadowlark is approximately the size of a robin. It has a yellow breast with a black bib, but the rest of its body is mostly brown.

The Western Meadowlark is also the state bird of Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Oregon, and Wyoming.
