Supporting Question 1: The Progressive Reform Movement

Submitted by admin on

The first supporting question, “What was the progressive movement?” helps students use research to unwrap the context of the time and topic being examined. Work with your school librarian or media specialist to help get students started on the following research project. Help them identify a variety of secondary and primary sources that will help them understand the historic context of the progressive era reform movements, especially as they relate to North Dakota. Have them search encyclopedias, Wikipedia, newspapers, the Library of Congress, the National Archives, the State Historical Society of North Dakota and other libraries, archives, and museums to gather basic information to develop a summary, essay, or graphic organizer to illustrate what they discovered about the topic. Complete the following task using the sources they found to build a context of the time period and topic being examined.

Formative Performance Task 1

Write a summary of what the progressive movement was. When did it take place? Who were some key players? What did they hope to accomplish? Did they do what they set out to do? Nationally? Locally?
