Study the infographic of progressive era reform movements from the Guilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Facilitate a discussion in class about these reforms starting with what students already know. What impact did progressive ideals have on North Dakota? How do students know what they already know? Talk about what their knowledge is based on. Have they read about it before, or saw it in a movie or television show?

Invite a woman who is a politician or local leader to speak to the class. What kind of experiences has she had in her career? Have progressive reforms affected her life? What are challenges and successes she has experienced? Did the interview support or contradict what students thought they knew? What surprised them the most?
