The third supporting question, “what are the similarities and/or differences between the Populist party, contemporary Tea Party, Green Party, and Occupy movement?” helps students use sources to unwrap the context of the time and topic being examined. Complete the following task using the sources provided to build a context of the time period and topic being examined.

Formative Performance Task 3

Consider populist movements today. Who are some contemporary political leaders or popular political movements who appeal to a populist mindset? Identify a specific example or case study. Read speech transcripts, published writings, and other primary sources. What rhetoric do they utilize to appeal to people today? Create a Power Point presentation that outlines the similarities and differences between the historic Populist movement and contemporary populist movements.
