Unity Button

Unity Button

Use the template or a similar pattern of a Medicine Wheel (links below) to cut the pattern out of heavy cardboard.

Medicine Wheel (Single Line)

Medicine Wheel (Double Line)

Using tempera paint (white, red, black, yellow), color each of the sections one of these colors. According to the Plains Indians, the color white is found in the north, red in the south, black in the west, and yellow in the east.

The center of a Medicine Wheel symbolizes a person’s will or how that person chooses to live his or her life. Have students choose a symbol that represents who they are and how they choose to live their lives in harmony with others.

Decorate the Unity Button with a feather or beads and hang it in the classroom or on a bulletin board to indicate the unity of the students in the classroom with each other and with the entire world.
