The National World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA has more than forty videos available in addition to lesson plans on a variety of topics related to the war. Have students watch one or more of the videos available on the museum’s website, either individually as homework or in groups or as a class. Use the Jigsaw method to assign groups different videos and then report back about what they learned to the whole class. Facilitate a class discussion about World War II. Start with what students already know. What was the general context of the war? Who were the entities involved? What was the Holocaust? What was Japanese Internment? Where other groups of people interned too? How did this affect people living in North Dakota or North Dakotans living in other parts of the country or the world? How do students know what they already know? Talk about what their knowledge is based on. Have they read about it before, or saw it in a movie or television show?
